The 2004 F150 has been entirely redesigned and only for the better. Since the Dodge Ram’s reinvention a few years earlier, both Ford and GM full size pickups were severely lacking in modernity and comfort. Though the Silverado and Sierra are relatively the same for ’04 the new F150 is as aggressive and possibly even more refined than the Ram. The Body styling is very pleasing and the extra room afforded to passengers and drivers is great for long hauls. The manufacturer still offers a great selection of trim packages and body styles making these trucks very customizable.

Extended and crew cabs have large rear seats that make them easily capable of carrying 6 passengers. The front control panel has been redeveloped with a more modern take and looks very appealing with a standard digital factory stereo. The front seats have been designed for comfort and the center console is very good for storing fairly large items. All of the cab sizes have been increased in size with a total of 4 inches more in width, and 6 inches more in length. Crew cab models have only a 5.5 ft cargo box, while all other models come with either a 5.5, 6.5, or 8 ft cargo box.

Trim packages offered for the 2004 Ford F150 include the XL, XLT, STX, FX4, and Lariat. XL models are the basic work style package but thanks to the fact that we live in modern times they actually come with a decent amount of accessories. Owners can expect at least some power accessories like windows and locks, along with a decent stereo system. Moving up in refinement is the XLT which comes with full power accessories, cruise control, CD players, power adjustable seats, and much more. Engines available for the 2004 Ford F150 include a 4.6 liter V8 which puts out 231 horsepower, or a 5.4 liter V8 capable of over 300 horsepower. Compared with previous years these engines are far better in the performance category, especially the smaller engine. Compared with the Silverado and Ram, the F150 gets great gas mileage. EPA estimated averages range from 14 mpg city to 18 mpg highway making the trucks comparable with Chevy’s and far better than the Ram.

The previous body style is also offered for the 2004 Ford F150 and comes with similar features to the revamped truck. Overall the new style is a great improvement upon what was already a formidable competitor. First coming on the scene in 1983, the Ford Ranger was Ford’s choice to replace the Ford Courier. The Courier was a Mazda product that carried Ford’s branding. Since 1983, the Ranger has been produced each model year and remains one of Ford’s popular vehicles among sales, although sales have dropped in recent years.

Although the bed of the Ranger is smaller than the standard sized Ford F-150, the design was originally made so that a four foot sheet of plywood would fit inside the bed. The sheet will have to ride on top of the wheel wells, but it will fit.

These jump seats, really would only be acceptable for children and then on short trips and not a long road trip. The jump seats, however do allow the Ranger to be classified as a four passenger vehicle, and the bed allows for four foot material.

Ford has sold untold numbers of these trucks in the over 25 years that they have been produced. The models have had major revisions at least four tines, reflecting the changes in the larger F-series trucks. Ranger continues to copy the body size of the F-series trucks in smaller sizes.

The smaller size means better gas mileage and these trucks are very popular among commuters who enjoy driving a truck but still need the better gas mileage offered by the smaller truck.

Currently, the Ford offers a 2. 3 liter or 4. 0 liter engine in the Ranger. For several years, the Ranger was available with a V-6 engine, although that was discontinued in 2009.

As the competition has increased the size of their former small trucks to midsize trucks, the Ranger and its Mazda counterpart are now the only trucks in their size range available.

Even though Ford has spent more marketing dollars on the Explorer series and the sales of Rangers has dropped over the past few years, with Toyota taking the lead with their larger Tacoma. Ford has continued to promise to make the Ranger and hopes that the increased demand for fuel economy will help sales.

Rumors have it that in 2012, Ford will replace the Ranger with a truck being manufactured in Australia that was originally designed for world markets other than the United States. Reports also say that this truck will have a much smaller 1. 6 liter engine with the option for a 3. 0 liter diesel engine only in Rangers sold outside of the United States.

The Ranger has been a popular truck for Ford for many years. It has offered economy along with the ability to haul items in a small truck.
